Beginning in 1998, with only five employees, FamilySearch set out to digitize their microfilm collection, which was estimated to take 50 years. At that time, nextScan was not even in business. Over the last 20 years, not only was nextScan formed, introduced the Eclipse, and has lead the advancement of high-speed scanning technology which has made it possible to scan so many images in a relatively short period of time.
While the microfilm may have been digitized the work is far from complete. FamilySearch holds a large collection of microfiche that still needs to be digitized. We look forward to continuing our work with FamilySearch and their partners to remain on schedule to complete their digitization efforts.
